One question, the right size answer

Every why is written twice: once for little ones, once for older kids. Switch the age band to see the difference.

Why of the Day

Why is the sky blue?

Sunshine is full of hidden colours, and blue likes to bounce all around the sky the most!

Tell me more: Sunlight is secretly a rainbow. The blue bits are the bounciest of all!

  • Why does the sky turn orange at sunset?
  • Why is space black instead of blue?

Short enough to finish

Little ones get one warm sentence. Older kids get two or three clear ones, plus a "tell me more" layer.

Curiosity that keeps going

Every answer links to the next natural question, so a single why becomes a ten-minute adventure.

Read to me

Pre-readers tap and listen. The voice built into your device reads it aloud; nothing is recorded.

Questions parents ask

What's the difference between the age bands?

Ages 4 to 6 get one short sentence per answer, read aloud on tap, and are meant to be used alongside a grown-up. Ages 7 to 10 get a fuller answer, a "tell me more" layer and the How Things Work section.

Does my child need an account?

No. Children never sign in. You create a lightweight profile with a first name, an animal buddy and an age band.

Is Ask Zig safe?

Every question typed in is checked before anything is answered. Anything unsafe or grown-up gets a gentle "let's ask a grown-up about that" card instead, answers are kept to kid-safe factual wording for the chosen age band, and there's a daily limit. Every question asked appears in Parent Corner, and you can switch Ask Zig off.

How does the read-aloud work?

It uses the voice already built into your phone, tablet or computer, so nothing is recorded.

What happens after the free week?

Subscribe for $7.99 a month or $59.99 a year to keep everything. If you don't, Space & Sky, the Why of the Day and the Why Wall stay free.

How do I cancel?

Open Parent Corner and tap Manage subscription. You keep access until the end of the period you've paid for.
